Thursday was finally dry enough for me to get in the garden again to pick. This is what I ended up with, and yes that is a garbage sack full of peas. I had picked four 5 gallon buckets full of peas. The one is partially empty because I had started shelling them that night, but it was full when I had started.
This was my shelling crew on Friday. I told the kids that if they stuck with it until they were all done, I would take them to the store and they could pick out any candy they wanted. The 3 oldest kids stuck with it the whole 3 HOURS! Garrett didn't do too shabby himself, and Jessica helped to deplete the pile by eating everything she shelled. :-) I paid up, and we made a trip to Smiths to get some candy. When I came home empty handed from the store and sore from sitting on the floor that long, I decided I should have gotten me some chocolate too! Maybe next time.
I know many of you may think it's so funny that I do so many posts of my peas, but I am very proud of the contribution I make to our family through our garden. So here's one more picture for you. This is what we ended up with, and I was able to freeze 16 bags this week with 3 cups in each. Not too shabby!!!
I think your peas are awesome! What I want to see is a picture of the actual garden. I'm pretty new to gardening and mine is pretty small thanks to a yard that doesn't got a lot of good sun, but I like inspiration!

I'll have to take a picture of it one of these days. It's not much to look at this year because all I planted was peas. I usually only plant tomatoes, peas, beans and corn (the things I can or freeze); but I'm very behind on peas so I planted the whole garden in them this year to catch up. Thus, the gallons and gallons of peas this year. :-)
ReplyDeleteI am so inspired by your peas too! And peas in June?! WOW! I know that utah is a little ahead of us, but JUNE? WOW! again! I would also like to see a picture of your garden. I am trying to get the weeds out of mine, but I am so overwhelmed by them. I would really like to see what a garden without weeds is supposed to look like! I think I need more inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI am impressed! I must admit that I quit planting peas because they were so much work to shell! And good for you - the candy bars were always a good incentive way back when!!
ReplyDeleteFast varieties of corn may still make it but beans may struggle. It may depend on when frost hits. You might just try it all. Good luck.
